The project worked along the general guidelines of upgrading in relation to the past. The idea was to ensure the contents do not clash with the container, in this case it was Palazzo Bocconi, a historical old building in Milan built back in the first half of 18th century and redesigned by the architect Antonio Citterio in the early-20th century to give it the appearance it has today. The project’s first aim was to create flexible and adaptable spaces set out in line with the original interior layout by functionally upgraded to fit in with the new systems and technological networks and to generally adapt the various environments to the laws in force. The furniture and finishing was designed out of conventional materials such as wood used for the floors and, in some parts, to complete the structural sections of the ceilings and the curtain panelling. The range of different furniture designed to furbish the operating spaces and executive quarters called for a more personal touch, which could only be achieved by creating original items to be custom designed by Progetto CMR. The rest was completed with high-profile furnishing chosen from what are now classic pieces of international design, which fit in perfectly with those designed along the lines of traditional Milanese cabinetmaking.
