DHL Express Italy Bologna Gateway
.
The new DHL Express Italy logistics facility at Bologna Airport was developed by Progetto CMR as part of the international “Go Green” strategy, with the aim of integrating operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and high-quality working environments.
.
The facility is located on an area of approximately 15,719 sqm and represents a strategic node within the Group’s European logistics network, serving as an advanced logistics gateway for goods sorting and express flow management.
The project embodies a new concept of logistics infrastructure, where operational functionality is combined with architectural quality and people’s well-being. Spaces dedicated to staff and services have been designed to ensure indoor comfort, efficiency, and usability, with particular attention given to the quality and livability of the working environment.
.
The architectural language is defined by DHL’s corporate identity, with façades made of prefabricated concrete panels featuring the brand’s signature red, yellow, and grey colors, integrated with elements in triple-wall cellular polycarbonate — a lightweight and recyclable material that enhances natural daylight penetration while improving the building’s energy performance.
Sustainability plays a central role in the project: the building envelope system, LED lighting, skylights, and the Building Management System (BMS) enable integrated control of all systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, and fire safety, optimizing overall energy consumption.
.
The facility is also equipped with a 105 kWp photovoltaic system installed on the parking canopies, contributing to renewable energy production and powering charging stations for electric vehicles, supporting the transition toward a low-emission fleet.
The project represents an example of contemporary logistics infrastructure, where technological innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainability are integrated into a single coherent system.
