Progetto CMR delivers the integrated design and construction management for Residenza del Cardinale, part of The Meliá Collection.
Just steps from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, in the heart of Milan’s 5 Vie district, Residenza del Cardinale opens as a new luxury hospitality destination within a historic 13th-century building.
Developed by Studio Simonetti and Progetto CMR, the project has transformed the building into a contemporary residence while preserving its historic character and introducing new standards of comfort, efficiency and quality. The property features 28 rooms and suites, including 3 Penthouses with private terraces.
For Progetto CMR, the project is an example of heritage regeneration through an integrated design approach. Architecture, engineering, building systems, sustainability and safety were brought together to adapt the building to the requirements of contemporary hospitality while preserving its architectural identity.
Particular attention was paid to the relationship between the building and its historic context. The transformation gives renewed value to the existing spaces, interpreting the character of the residence through a contemporary language and establishing a balance between heritage and innovation.
“Every historic building is a heritage asset to preserve, but also an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of our cities. With this project, we have brought new life to a place of great value, respecting its character while reinterpreting it through a contemporary language focused on people’s wellbeing, efficiency and the quality of the experience.”

With Residenza del Cardinale, Progetto CMR confirms the value of integrated design as a tool for the regeneration of existing buildings, combining heritage preservation, innovation and new uses.
