Progetto CMR oversaw the general and architectural works supervision for the Olympic Village, a 50,000 sqm project commissioned by COIMA SGR S.p.A – Porta Romana Fund, and owned by the COIMA Olympic Village Fund. The site is located in the western wing of the former Porta Romana rail yard. After the conclusion of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the village will be converted into student housing, offering approximately 1,700 beds, along with services and green areas. Construction was carried out by a consortium composed of Impresa CEV S.p.A., Grassi e Crespi S.r.l., and Milani S.p.A.

Thanks to its extensive experience in supervising highly complex construction projects—such as the new Bocconi University Campus and Sports Center in Milan, the Ri.MED biomedical research center in Carini (Palermo), and the H-Campus education center in Cà Tron near Venice—Progetto CMR played a key role in this project, which represents Italy’s first example of a partnering contract. This model goes beyond the traditional concept of contracting, introducing a shared organizational and decision-making system with the client. It is applied to site technologies, construction management, and joint procurement decisions, allowing for faster timelines and greater overall efficiency.

Additionally, the decision to minimize on-site labor by prioritizing off-site production of most structural and primary components of the six residential buildings—set to host the athletes—helped the project stay ahead of schedule. Construction began in January 2023, with delivery of the Olympic Village to the Fondazione Milano Cortina scheduled for July 2025.

“We are proud that our work on the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Village has helped set a new standard in project execution. This was achieved within one of Europe’s most innovative urban redevelopment sites, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), which carries great national and international expectations,”
said Marco Ferrario, Engineer and President of Progetto CMR, who led the General and Architectural Works Supervision for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Village.
