An international recognition for an urban regeneration project that brings together heritage, innovation and sustainability.
The redevelopment project of Stadio dei Pini “Torquato Bresciani” in Viareggio has received the CITY’SCAPE AWARD 2026, the international award dedicated to landscape architecture. The project won the FSB Italy Sport&Play Special Award – S1 | Stadiums & Arenas category.
The award ceremony took place on September 18 at the Salone d’Onore of Milan’s Triennale. The jury recognised the project’s ability to combine historical heritage, innovation and urban regeneration. The intervention gives a new lease of life to a landmark of the city, introducing higher standards of functionality, safety, accessibility and sustainability.

The achievement is the result of collaboration between several companies within the Progetto CMR International Group. Sportium led the integrated design and construction supervision together with Progetto CMR. InFire was responsible for fire safety engineering, while STAIN Engineering handled MEP design.
A distinctive feature of the project is the new façade, inspired by Viareggio’s pine forest and the iconic Burlamacco carnival character. This design gives the building a recognisable architectural identity, deeply rooted in the local area.
The project goes beyond the redevelopment of a sports venue. It transforms Stadio dei Pini into a contemporary, inclusive civic infrastructure, open to the wider community
