Bergamo University – New Multifunctional Campus

.

The project for the new multifunctional campus of the University of Bergamo, designed by Progetto CMR, establishes a new landmark for academic life, bringing together student activities, services, and welcome spaces for freshmen within a single representative building.

.

The intervention places strong emphasis on Universal Design principles, through a clear spatial organization, the reduction of level changes, and the elimination of architectural barriers, ensuring smooth, accessible, and safe circulation for all users.

The project is composed of two main polygonal volumes: a two-storey building dedicated to events and office functions, and a three-storey building intended for administrative and management spaces. The buildings are set within an open landscape designed to mitigate the urban heat island effect, featuring underground parking and a system of permeable outdoor areas.

.

From an architectural perspective, the design is characterized by dynamic forms and flowing lines that define a contemporary language based on movement and spatial perception.

The environmental strategy, compliant with the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM), integrates advanced Building Management Systems (BMS), a high-performance building envelope, and passive strategies such as solar radiation control, maximization of natural daylight, and the use of renewable energy sources. The goal is to achieve high energy performance up to NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) standards, ensuring optimal comfort and sustainability.
