Presented on 23 April 2026 at Teatro Galli, the concept for the New Rimini Airport District was developed by Progetto CMR for AIRiminum 2014 S.p.A., in the presence of key institutional stakeholders, including ENAC and the Regione Emilia-Romagna.
The project marks a paradigm shift for Rimini International Airport, which is reimagined as a new integrated urban district, transforming the airport from a transport infrastructure into an open system of urban, economic, and territorial connections for the Romagna Riviera.
A new model of integrated infrastructure
The masterplan combines the redevelopment of the existing terminal with new strategic volumes and functions—commercial, office, and intermodal—within a unified system developed in phases, ensuring full operational continuity throughout the transformation process.
The project establishes a new balance between infrastructure and city, where architecture and landscape act as connecting devices rather than separate elements.
An identity-driven architectural language
The concept is based on three main drivers—Roman heritage, nature, and aerodynamics—which define the project’s architectural language through arches, continuous greenery, and fluid geometries.
These elements shape a new identity for the airport, rooted in its historical and territorial context while projecting it into a contemporary and international dimension.

Air Park and new urban centrality
A defining feature of the project is the Air Park, an accessible green roof that transforms the multi-storey car park into an elevated public landscape.
Directly connected to the terminal via an active pedestrian bridge, the Air Park extends the airport beyond its functional role, becoming an integral part of the city and urban life.
Through a language based on transparency, lightness, and infrastructural clarity, the project defines a new identity for the airport.
The result is an open and multifunctional airport system, set to become a new urban centrality for Rimini and the Riviera, generating value beyond air travel and strengthening the region’s international role.
