On Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Sala Ex Carcere Borbonico in Santa Lucia del Mela, Architect Massimo Roj—Italian Design Ambassador to the World and Compasso d’Oro winner—will deliver a Lectio Magistralis. The address will focus on the potential for regenerating historical villages through environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and economic revitalization, in alignment with the UN 2030 Agenda’s Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
A Vision for the Future of Historical Villages
The event is designed as a significant opportunity for discussion on the themes of urban valorization and sustainable development, with a specific focus on the future of Italy’s historical villages. This initiative is part of the Cultural and Social Regeneration Project of the “Borgo Sacro” (Sacred Village) of Santa Lucia del Mela, which is funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Attending the event will be the Mayor of Santa Lucia del Mela, Hon. Matteo Sciotto, and the President of the Messina Order of Engineers, Eng. Santi Trovato. Massimo Roj will engage in a dialogue with Eng. Linda Schipani, an artist and ambassador for Maestro Pistoletto’s Third Paradise.
Following the Lectio Magistralis, local professionals will present their community projects, which will be followed by contributions from the community and local youth. The event will conclude with a visit to the exhibition “Artists for the Third Paradise – Visions of the Symbol by Michelangelo Pistoletto.”
This is an unmissable opportunity for professionals, institutions, and citizens to build shared visions for the future of our historical villages.
