Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in the “Sala Caduti di Nassirya” at the Senate of the Republic, the conference Healthcare and Safety: New Hospitals for a More Resilient Italy was held, organized in collaboration with Mangini Group. The theme of the meeting concerns the increasingly urgent and current challenges for new hospitals and for hospital facilities that require works to comply with current regulations.
The event—initiated by Senator Antonio Trevisi, member of the 6th Finance and Treasury Commission, and with participation by Hon. Marcello Gemmato, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Health, and Senator Francesco Zeffini, President of the 10th permanent Commission – Social Affairs, Health, Public and Private Work, Social Security—was moderated by Lorenzo Tedeschi, Cortexa Delegate in the Executive Board of Federcostruzioni, and featured, among others, Architect Roj, who called for a reflection on urgently pressing issues that can no longer be postponed.
The data in the latest OASI Report from Cergas‑SDA Bocconi, in fact, reminds us how the care needs linked to chronic conditions and to the non‑self‑sufficiency of the Italian population—which is increasingly older—are growing at unprecedented rates.
It is necessary to radically rethink the system: more modern, modular, and flexible hospitals, capable of adapting quickly to emergencies; a true integration with the territory, where ongoing care takes place in community homes, through telemedicine, in care pathways; digitization and artificial intelligence to manage data, anticipate needs, optimize flows; new professional figures able to coordinate care pathways; and a strong attention to sustainability, both environmental and human, in spaces that reduce stress and pain and enhance the wellbeing of those who work there and those who are hospitalized.
The true objective must be a system centered on the person: a hospital that is not only a place of technical care, but an experience of welcome, safety, and trust.
