The Sensible Office

Spaces dedicated to learning, and universities in particular, have all of the complexities of a work environment and of a social container characterised by a very high need for flexibility. The university client encompasses a number of different roles: docents, professors, exam takers, exam givers, employees, as well as a number of inter-roles, whose complexity stimulates the architect to create a space that is intended to be functional rather than hierarchical. The need to define a multiplicity of areas with a clear use – passageways, seating areas, for listening, studying, silence and socialising – requires the use of skills that are not merely architectural, but also require organisational analysis and the understanding of the different functions. Our objective is to have a complex space with simple solutions that does not lack the aesthetic details that the importance and prestige of a university structure often require.
